Can we practise speaking?
workshop
When writing lesson plans, teachers often write that the aim of a lesson or stage is for the students to 'practice speaking'. But can we actually do this and is there a point?

In this workshop we will look at how meaningful student to student interaction in the classroom actually is, as well as examining the differences between 'oral practice' and 'speaking'. We will look at how to give tasks a real communicative outcome and how this is connected to the feedback teachers give after the activity.

Three takeaways

Participants will:
1
Look at the differences between practice and speaking
2
Get some practical ideas about giving tasks communicative outcomes
3
Get some tips about how to give more natural and productive content feedback
